The Flamingos do Tejo Residential Complex in the Parque das Nações, contains external spaces defined by three buildings. The design solution intends to create a pleasant space for the building residents to embrace as their own private external space. The paving design is defined by large concrete slabs that imply a geometric rhythm upon the entire space. The joints between the slabs adopt various widths creating drainage slots, integrating water features, lighting and defining planting areas. The transition between indoor and outdoor space is accentuated by subtle wooden decking around the building entrances.
The layout of elements in this space (seating, planting beds, water features and a playground) adheres to the geometry of the paving which defines a strong and spatially unifying design.
