Quinta do Alamal Fluvial Park

The Quinta do Alamal Fluvial Park is located in a place of particular significance along the the waterfront of the river Tejo. The construction of a dam caused partial flooding in this enclosed valley.

The fundamental principle of the project is to celebrate the site’s inherent characteristics. Despite the installation of the dam, the Tejo flows freely, teeming with life and colour indenting its presence in the valley.

The project is defined by the existence of the former structures, which have influenced the design proposal. The farm’s recreational area, surrounded by large alders, retained its original function, but the citrus and almond-trees terraces were converted into camping and seating areas. The area adjacent to the dam was transformed into a fluvial beach, and, by taking advantage of the small dams, the final section of the river was altered to become a natural pool.
