The Alamal fluvial park is located in a particular situation with a pre-existence of great significance; a riverside farm in the river Tejo, in an enclosed valley which is partially flooded, as consequence of the construction of a dam. This park is the result of a conversion of the farmhouse into a hostel and respective fluvial beach. The aesthetical treatment of the surrounding landscape has materialized the strategies defined in the proposal. The fundamental project guideline is the celebration of the site's inherent characteristics. An extraordinary site to experience a river, the Tejo, which despite pacified by means of dams and lagoons, remains pulsating with fish and colour changes, and still craving to indent its presence in the riverside. The site, structured by the Alamal stream, was organized and re-structured in coherence with the pre-existent potentialities. The farm’s recreational area, surrounded by large alders, maintained its original function; the citrus and almond-trees terraces were reconverted in areas of the hostel and occasional camping areas.
