Due to its location, an external space surrounded and protected by buildings, the intervention area may be seen and used almost as a private collective space. The project solution intends to create a pleasant space to be used by the inhabitants of the buildings, and to be felt by them as their own private outside space. All the materials used are very clean and controlled, with a rigid geometry that is explored to create greater patterns. There is a wood pavement that makes the transition between the buildings and its entrances and the central external area. This area will be covered with different sized concrete platforms that create a pattern with slim openings that work as draining joints, or bigger joints that become planting areas. The idea of bigger joints also solved the necessity of integrating a water element and a playground. Therefore these two different spaces also emerge from the concrete pattern. In the end what we tried to create was a clean external area with a strong pattern that can be easily recognized.
