The tender launched in February 2009, promoted by the Junta de Compensasión Parque de Valdebebas aimed the management and design of a new urban park with approximately 80 hectares. The proposal should resolve the connections and the transition between the new city and the big park, generate appropriations and usages according to the scale of the park na generally take advantage of its great urban, environmental and social landscape.
The team competed with the motto “sun and shadow” that according to the presented proposal represents one of the themes of the Park, a theme that focuses the contrasts of the site and that is interpreted by the Park through the established complicities between the large open areas and the forest areas, between the densely coated slopes and the open space of the of the summit, through the water surfaces and their vibrations and through the plasticity of the inert structures of the park, massive white and smooth walls, which constitute dams, limiting paving, that support land, harboring functions, like inhabited walls, “house-walls”. White walls where shadows are drawn, where also graffiti are drawn, signs, messages, deleted year after year and transformed into fruits of the Park, to once more give place to the white.
